Connecting your store

Before the Bizzkit Shopify Connector can synchronize anything, your Shopify store must be connected to the Bizzkit environment that holds your product information. You do this once, from inside your Shopify admin.

What the connection is

A connection binds one Shopify store to one Bizzkit environment, exclusively in both directions. If you sell through several Shopify stores, each one needs its own Bizzkit environment.

The store is identified by its permanent Shopify store name, not the domain your shoppers see, so changing a custom domain never breaks the link. You make the connection only once: removing the app does not undo it.

Before you start

  • A link to the app's Shopify App Store listing — Bizzkit provides it. The listing is kept out of App Store search and category pages, so you cannot find the app by browsing; always start from the link.
  • A Shopify account that may install apps on the store, such as the store owner.
  • The name of your Bizzkit environment — your Bizzkit administrator can tell you.
  • A Bizzkit user account in that environment with the Manage Shopify connector permission. The connection cannot be completed without it.

Connecting the store

  1. Open the link and install the app from its listing page. Shopify grants the access the app declares, so no separate authorization screen appears.
  2. In the Shopify admin, go to Apps and open the connector. It shows Setting up your store and the store name it detected.
  3. Select Connect this store.
  4. Enter the name of your Bizzkit environment and select Continue.
  5. Sign in to Bizzkit in the window that opens.
  6. Check the confirmation screen, which names both sides, and select Connect.

The app then continues to its configuration screens.

How the connection is secured

A connection is established only when two facts are proven in the same request:

  • The store — identified by Shopify, because the request comes from inside that store's admin. You never type the store name, so you cannot connect a store you are not working in.
  • The environment — identified by your Bizzkit sign-in and the permissions on your account.

Neither proof achieves anything alone: naming an environment you have no account in takes you no further than its sign-in page, and being signed in does not let you name an arbitrary store. Every attempt is recorded in the environment, with the user who made it.

An attempt is refused if either side is already connected elsewhere, and the refusal does not name the existing connection — whoever is trying may have nothing to do with it.

If something goes wrong

Message What it means What to do
That environment cannot be connected to this store The environment name is wrong, or the environment is not prepared for the connector yet Confirm the name with your Bizzkit administrator
This store or environment is already connected elsewhere The store or the environment already holds a connection Contact Bizzkit — an existing connection must be released first
You do not have access Your Bizzkit account is not permitted to use the Shopify Connector Ask your Bizzkit administrator for the Manage Shopify connector permission
Sign-in window was blocked Your browser blocked the sign-in window Allow pop-up windows for the site, then sign in again

The connection must be made from inside the Shopify admin. Opening the app in its own browser tab works for everyday configuration, but that view cannot prove which store a request comes from, so it only reports that the store is waiting to be connected.

After the store is connected

Connecting the store does not start synchronizing. The app takes you through the rest of the setup: the connection to your product information in Bizzkit PIM, which products to synchronize, how Bizzkit attributes map to Shopify product fields and metafields, and finally activation. Nothing reaches your store until you activate it.

If the app is uninstalled

Uninstalling the app stops the synchronization and discards the access the connector held on your store. It receives no further updates from Bizzkit until the app is installed again.

Nothing is destroyed. Products already synchronized remain in the store, because the connector does not delete catalogue data you are selling, and your synchronization rules, field mappings, and the connection itself are kept in Bizzkit, so installing the app again picks up the previous setup.

Some changes are arranged with Bizzkit rather than made from the app: moving a store to a different environment, releasing a connection so that either side can be reused, and removing the configuration and synchronization records the connector holds.
